SR-71
We made a Blue Angels tribute a few years ago, but since we race near Eglin Air Force Base every year, we decided to make an Air Force tribute for 2023.
The SR-71 starts with a pre-cut and pre-weighted Jet body from ABC Pinewood Derby. It arrived weighing 4.4 ounces with perfect weight distribution.
Our SR-71 is finished in the blackest paint available to anyone not named Anish Kapoor.
Anish Kapoor is a British artist famous for Cloud Gate, colloquially called The Chicago Bean. He bought the exclusive rights to Vantablack, which is the blackest paint in the world, absorbing 99.96% of light. So now Vantablack is only available to Kapoor and the scientific community, not the general public.
In response, Stuart Semple created Black 2.0 and an even darker Black 3.0, which absorbs 99% of light. Our SR-71 is painted in Stuart Semple Black 3.0, which is available to everyone except Anish Kapoor.
