KITT

For 2023, we built a replica of the custom 1982 Pontiac Trans Am from the Knight Rider TV series. The Trans Am played the part of the Knight Industries Two Thousand, or KITT, which was a supercar with artificial intelligence.

Our KITT started with this immaculate CNC-machined body weighing 2.665 oz.

We cut out the area for KITT's signature light scanner and found an LED kit online. The kit came with six LEDS, which was too much for the limited space we had, so we removed lights 1 and 6. The light showed through the wood on initial tests, but layers of primer and paint will prevent that when it's finished.

KITT is finished in a black lacquer with glossy clearcoat and wears Graphite Coated UltraLite Wheels with silver trim and Graphite Coated Titanium Grooved Axles.

KITT's lights are by Evan Designs, and the power board, sound module and remote control are from Brickstuff. I used Brickstuff's DIY cables to connect the LEDs to the control board, so the lights and sounds are all controlled by a keychain remote.

I needed a carrying case for KITT, the remote, the charging cable and adapters, so I picked up this vintage Knight Rider lunchbox on eBay.

KITT weighs exactly 5.000 oz. Ready to race!
