For 2021, we're creating a different kind of Legendary Pine Car.
We've teamed up with Shelby American to create the Ken Miles Tribute Edition Pine Car to honor the 55th anniversary of Miles' race at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. The historic race was immortalized in the Academy Award-winning 2019 film Ford v Ferrari. When the build is over, we're auctioning the car off to benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation.
The paint job on this one is critical, so we'll be using PineCar Sanding Sealer to prep the CNC-cut 2005 Ford GT body from Derby Creations.
Historians at Ford Performance found the original paint codes, and Vince LaViolette, VP of Production and R&D and lead test driver at Shelby, applied the iconic livery.
The car is autographed by Shelby American President Gary Patterson and LaViolette and serialized as Shelby #0001 PWD.
We customized the Pro Ultra-Lite wheels courtesy of ABC Pinewood Derby and installed the them on a set of machined and graphite-coated axles, also from ABC.
We'll enter the car in Trail Life USA's Central Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast Trail Life 500 Pine Car Grands Prix. You can follow the build here as well as Facebook and Instagram.
